What Is Reclaimed Engineered Wood Flooring?

Reclaimed Engineered wood flooring has a fascinating history.  It was originally developed in response to the needs of the American military during World War II.  At that time, there was a shortage of traditional hardwood floors, so the military began experimenting with ways to create a more durable and long-lasting product.  The result was engineered wood flooring, which quickly gained popularity for its strength and resistance to moisture.  Today, engineered floors are still prized for their durability, and they are a popular choice for both home and business owners.

Reclaimed engineered wood flooring consists of a single board made up of many pieces of wood (referred to as “plies”) that are glued together.  The wear layer, which is usually 4-5 millimeters thick, is made of genuine hardwood.  The “plies” are found at the bottom section.

There are two opposing layers that make up engineered lumber floors.  This is often known as “cross-ply” construction.  This technique efficiently protects engineered wood from moisture issues.  If you have a lot of planks in a row, they counteract each other and so decrease the amount of cupping or crowning that a floor has when exposed to different degrees of moisture.

Engineered Wood Flooring Installation

The installation of reclaimed engineered wood flooring is much simpler to install than regular reclaimed solid hardwood flooring.  While engineered wood can be simple to install, you still may want to consider hiring a flooring professional with a high level expertise to install properly.  Like all top shelf flooring, engineered floors are an investment making it important to choose a reputable and experienced brand.  We at VCH Flooring have been manufacturing flooring for over a decade.  So, our flooring, after being installed correctly, can provide years of beauty and durability.  These floors can be installed using nails (brad nails work well), staples or wood flooring adhesive and can be laid on a subfloor or concrete slabs.  You might also consider using an underlayment.  With careful planning and execution, the installation of engineered wood floors can be a successful and enjoyable experience.

Reclaimed Engineered Wood Flooring

For both practical and aesthetic reasons, reclaimed engineered flooring is the ideal choice for your house or business.  A solid wood floor installed by gluing it directly to concrete is not recommended.  When compared to concrete, wood requires a lot of seasonal expansion and contraction room.  Because of this, your floor may develop holes or cracks.  Wood subfloors or reclaimed engineered wood flooring, which expands and contracts less with the seasons, are the best solutions to this problem.

You can save time and money by skipping the installation of a wood subfloor and going straight to installing your engineered product.  Over radiant heat floor systems reclaimed engineered wood flooring is an excellent choice.  Because of its layered architecture, it is far more stable than solid wood and reacts much less to changes in temperature.
