An oak is a hardwood tree or shrub in the genus Quercus of the beech family, Fagaceae. They have spirally arranged leaves, often with lobed edges, and a nut called an acorn, borne in a cup. The genus is widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere; it includes some 500 species, both deciduous and evergreen.

Oak Floors

The strongest hardwood is Oak.  Additionally, Oak is one of the least expensive hardwood floors and is used in many commercial applications.   These days most of us are more aware of the importance of trees.  Their role in our continued well-being is accepted and appreciated, though we still rely on them for the wood that they supply.  Wood is an ideal material, with many uses and applications in our lives, especially flooring.  Through sustainable management, we can continue to use wood without risking the environment further.

Oak has been a favorite for many hundreds of years, with around 200 species to be found.  It is relatively abundant and has an attractive, open grain that looks great when used for furniture or flooring.  Because of its grain, which can resemble the contours found in fingerprints, it is used extensively for veneers, thin slices that are glued to the surface of the furniture to provide a beautiful finish.  In New Jersey, oak is available in two types: red oak and white oak.  The white variety is, in fact, more of a greyish-brown shade, while red oak is similar but with a reddish tinge.  Although both are relatively expensive, red oak is usually the cheaper of the two.  Both are dense, heavy, and hard-wearing, making them ideal for flooring, especially noted for their resistance to stains and scratches.

Minimalist Elegance

Light wood flooring is a trend that embodies minimalistic elegance and in 2024, the popularity continues to rise.  The subtle, delicate shades of oak add sophistication to any living space.  One key attribute of light flooring is its ability to create a bright airy atmosphere within rooms.

The gentle hues of light wood reflect natural light, amplify the sense of freshness and tranquility in your home.  Furthermore, light wood flooring serves as a versatile backdrop for modern, traditional, and industrial designs.  Oak floors are a neutral canvas for Scandinavian minimalism to coastal chic.  Oak floors provide an open space for limitless possibilities for decorating and personalizing your living space.
